Jo's web log #4: receiving automatic updates about new content on the website
Hello again.
We've had a couple of emails from new members wanting to find out whether it's possible to receive automatic notification of new content posted to the website. There are a few options - depending on how you like to receive update information and the sorts of tools you are familiar/comfortable with. So if you haven't already subscribed to the site via social media, email or RSS feed - I hope this information is useful.
Social media (Facebook and/or Twitter)
On the right hand side of the pages on the website - you'll see links to CPN accounts on Facebook and Twitter. We've hooked the CPN Blog up to both accounts... so, if you are active on social media you could 'like' CPN page on Facebook or follow CPN on Twitter to hear about new content - as it's posted to the blog.
If social media isn't your thing, there's a couple of other options... you'll find them by scrolling down into the footer section of the website.
Email subscription
If you want to receive an email to let you know that a new post has been added to CPN Blog, the 'subscribe to blog' option should work for you. Add your email address into the text box in the bottom right hand corner of the site and click submit to set up that subscription service (and just in case you were wondering, it's as quick and easy to unsubscribe to this service - if and when you decide that you don't want to receive email updates any more).
There's a similar email subscription service available when you post a comment on an individual blog post - just tick the 'I want to be notified of new posts or comments by email' box before you submit your comment. Now that's an option I personally really like - it's a great way of keeping up with a conversation about a post I'm interested in as it is unfolding. (And if you're not sure how to add a comment to a blog post, you'll find some information in Jo's web log #2).
RSS Feed
If the thought of having an automated update arrive every time a new post is added to the blog feels a bit overwhelming, why not set up an RSS (really simple syndication) feed? You'll find an explanation of how RSS feeds work and some practical advice to help you set up an RSS feed in a way that works for you and the device/software you're using here (with thanks to colleagues at CSP for helping me find this information). If you decide to set up an RSS feed - click on the orange radio icon in the footer and follow the prompts.
Thanks for reading - and do use the voting buttons to let me know if this sort information is useful for helping you make the most of website functionality - Jo Bloggs
